The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Introduces “Kids Eat Right,” an initiative that provides tips, recipes and videos to support good nutrition and healthy living for kids.
This past week I attended the American Dietetic Association (ADA) Food and Nutrition Conference (FNCE) in Boston. Each year when I return from this week of networking, learning and fun, I am both exhausted and exhilarated at the same time.
The highlight this year was the announcement of a new initiative targeted toward healthy nutrition for children: Kids Eat Right. This program utilizes Registered Dietitians to educate parents, families, schools and communities on the nutrient needs of children. Practical tips, articles, videos and recipes from registered dietitians will be posted each week to help families shop smart, cook healthy and eat right.
The Goals of the Kids Eat Right include:
- Support the White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity Prevention and put the American Dietetic Association’s recommendations to improve nutrition and physical activity in communities, schools and families into action.
- Prevent childhood obesity and promote the health of all youth
- Provide nutrition education and guidance to support quality nutrition and healthy weights for children using registered dietitians
The website http://www.kidseatright.org/ has information for all ages including baby, toddler, preschooler, grade-schooler and teen. It will be updated weekly with new information to help empower families to make healthier choices and get kids eating healthfully.
I’ve already signed on as a volunteer to help spread the word of the importance of quality nutrition for all youth. Stay tuned for more on this very important topic.
